You’ve seen “ponte” on a hundred product pages. Here’s what it actually means.
Say it like a local
Ponte (PON-tay, short for ponte di Roma) is a double knit: two layers knitted together. That makes it thicker and more stable than a T-shirt knit, and it looks nearly the same on both sides.
A knit, not a fiber
“Ponte” describes how a fabric is knitted, not what it’s made of. Two ponte pants from different brands can feel completely different, so always read the fiber content.
What’s in ours
Our ponte is 65% LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose, 31% nylon and 4% elastane. The viscose gives softness and breathability, the nylon strength and a smooth surface, and the elastane four-way stretch. It’s machine washable.
The four-point check
Before you buy any ponte pants, check four things: the fiber percentages, whether the stretch is two-way or four-way, the rise and inseam, and the care instructions.
Our ponte family
Hudson (ankle, $118), Essex (bootcut, $128), Carmine (wide leg, $138) and Duane (cropped flare, $118). They share one fabric; the difference is the shape. Not sure which shape? Read How to Choose Black Pants.
